The Vikings Health & Safety regime is administered by;

Dave Hall –  Manaraefan   Society Health & Safety Thegn
Gareth Evans (Goose) - Ousekjarr  Assistant Health & Safety Thegn

In addition, this team includes the Society First Aiders, and others on an ad-hoc basis.

As the title suggests, this team is concerned with Health and Safety matters which relate to the societies activities, and in particular, that we do not fall foul of any legislation.

The extent to which legislation applies to our activities is vague, and therefore we operate in keeping with what is considered good practice by the Health and Safety Executive.

The Vikings takes a pragmatic approach to Health & Safety, trying to strike a balance which satisfies the requirements of relevant legislation without imposing onerous rules which detract from the quality and enjoyment of our events for the participants, guests, clients and our audience.

The specific tasks that the Health & Safety Team are responsible for fall into two areas, those which take place at events, and those which support the running of the Society away from events.

At events, the most visible contribution that the team make is ensuring that First Aid provision is made. As well as this, we have to ensure that what we have said we are going to do to control hazards in the Risk Assessment, is actually carried out.

If at an event you have a Heath & Safety concern, please bring it to our attention.

Away from events, the Team carries out mainly administrative duties such as reviewing and updating the documentation which supports our Health & Safety regime as well as administering Risk Assessments and Accident Reports.

If you have any questions which are not answered by the documentation in this section, please feel free to contact the Health & Safety Team.

If you are a qualified First Aider and wish to offer your services at events, please contact Goose with a copy of your certification.

At an event, the following hierarchy operates in relation to Health and Safety matters. If the identified individual is not present or unavailable, the responsibility devolves to the next in line;

1. Society Health & Safety Thegn
2. Assistant Health & Safety Thegn
3. Ranking Society Thegn
4. Ranking Group Thegn
